TOP TIPS TO CREATE YOUR OWN BEAUTIFUL WEDDING STATIONERY

1. Be open minded. You will be surprised what can be used to create beautiful invitations. For example, there is a well respected wedding stationery company which uses off-cuts of wallpaper!

2. Always make a prototype first. The ideas you have in your head don't always work in practise. It's also a good idea to test out how the materials work together so that you don't waste time or money.

3. Make sure that you use the right adhesives. PVA can cause paper to warp and crease as it dries; completely destroying your hard work. Pritt Stick tends not to have a lasting result (especially in very cold weather).

Depending on the materials you are using, we would recommend the following:

Double Sided tape

Spray mount

Hot melt glue gun and glue sticks

4. If you are making a lot of cards, try to avoid making them one at a time. It is much quicker to split up the process piece by piece and put them all together at the end (like a little production line). Getting some friends over to help will make it fun and save you time too!

5. Try not to over-design; sometimes less is more. Coco Chanel used to say that you should always remove the last thing that you put on. The same applies to card making.

6. When you buy the materials to make your stationery, always purchase approximately 10% extra. You are bound to make a few mistakes.

7. Don't spoil beautiful invitations with poor quality printing. If possible, use a laser printer.

8. Look at online wedding stationery sites for inspiration. There are some fantastic ones if you google well. (Remember not to copy exactly - you don't want to get in to trouble for breach of copyright!!!)

9. Make sure you cost everything properly. It's surprising how everything adds up. Most people forget to budget for things like glue and postage.

10. ALWAYS ALLOW MORE TIME THAN YOU NEED!!!
